This is THE baking book. Don't even bother with anything else. My mom had a copy of it when I was growing up, and the recipes she used during my childhood called to me as I got older and moved out. There is no better apple crisp recipe than the one in this book, and many of the others (peanut blossoms, split seconds) are family staples. No other cookbook has ever been as used or treasured as this one for my family, and I finally had to get a copy for myself.

I mean, I have the recipes now. But Mom still has all the kitchen magic. :)

Ive had this cookbook ror 21 years. After my son was married I purchased this cookbook for my daughter in law.... My son loved all the goodies that the book provided as a child. THE recipss are excellent and when prepared with love it makes the perfect dessert recipe book around!
I use this cookbook for most of my baking and I get complements for every dessert I share from it. My favorite section is the pies. The simple 4 ingredient pie crust recipe is so easy and just as flaky as every overly complicated one I've come across elsewhere. Not to mention, the pie fillings are generous and delicious. My sister-in-law bought me this cookbook over 15 years ago and I like it so much, I recently bought a copy for my friends. Be warned, the quality of the book binding is very poor, the pages started falling out of my old copy within a year (no word on the new one yet) but the recipes are so good I can't part with my old dilapidated book!
I love love love this book. I bought it about 18 years ago and my daughters and I loved cooking from it. So I have to search to find it and buy two so that I could give it to my girls so that they could pass it on. This book is a must have for any baker
This was a Christmas gift for my wife to replace the same book she's had for 20+ years because many of the pages had detatched from the binder. Her old book was picked up by trash collectors today before she had time to sit down with the new book to look for a dessert receipe. What she found was smashed bugs, water damage, mold, and pages stuck together from being wet. This book is being returned and my wife now has no baking cookbook.
I had this book many years ago and left if behind during a move out of state 5 years ago and just recently purchased another one and I am so happy to have found it. I always liked baking but prior to this book just about everything I made came out either burnt or too hard. Using recipes in this book I was able to venture into territories I never would have on my own before. Now that I have my book back I can stop using boxed mixes, which I had resorted to after I moved. I am in bakers heaven right now and I feel no fear of the oven. I am making cinnamon rolls today, yum! Get this book, lots of great, easy to follow recipes.
This is actually my second copy of this book. The first I received 20 years ago on my 16 birthday. This is still my go to baking book, and partially because of that, my first copy was beaten and battered. It was missing a few pages, more pages are falling out and a few are so ridden with oil I can no longer read them. Though there are many modern copies, this has all my 'holy grail' recipes. I would recommend this to anyone, everyday, all day. I own about 500 cookbooks, but this is my favorite.
I've had this book since it was new in the store, and my mother sent it to me for my birthday one year. It has since been used and so well-loved that the spine is broken, all the pages are falling out, and it automatically opens to my favorite recipes (pumpkin bread, sour cream coffee cake, cinnamon rolls). My husband bought me another copy used last year for christmas, but I refuse to open it because I still have the pages for the old falling-apart one, even if they are covered in flour, sugar and butter, and if all the pages are falling out! This is my all-time favorite go-to recipe book the recipes are far superior to those in my King Arthur baking books for quick breads, cookies and tender yeast items. The KA book has repeatedly disappointed me with tough and dry baked goods, but the Pillsbury book always delights me with tender moist goodies! I wish it were not out of print, but I am glad that copies are still available second-hand! A must-buy for any casual baker you know. The recipes are delightful.
