Split Infinity The Apprentice Adept Book 1 Piers Anthony Books
I enjoyed this book when I was younger, but it was so long ago I decided to listen to the series again in Audible. I was afraid that the story would not hold up to what I remember as my reading tastes have matured over the years. I was happy to see that I still enjoyed the story after all these years. Piers Anthony has a great way of keeping readers engaged with well written prose, while also imparting valuable mores that are rare these days. His heroes are real human beings, with the same anxieties that we all have - They may go bravely into the abyss, however you "hear" their thoughts along the way and know they are not acting blindly or irrationally. The only thing that makes these characters seem somewhat unreal is that they are so steadfast about maintaining their oaths and integrity despite overwhelming adversity. It is a great lesson that you can persevere without compromising your values, however how many of us would keep to an oath when someone they love or deeply care about is in imminent danger?I truly enjoy an imaginative tale such as this that can take you to another world, or worlds in this case - striding the lines of Sci-Fi and Fantasy.
This is a fun read, and you can really connect with the characters.

Split Infinity The Apprentice Adept Book 1 Piers Anthony Books Reviews
Great writing , great characters and a great story. Soft ... smooth ... mellow ... tantalizing ... something in me said ‘quit reading farther’, but piqued interest kept me going.
Very well written, interesting characters, convoluted plots, all in all a great adventure! A few parts has more details than necessary and interrupts the flow of the story. Thank you Piers Anthony, for an exciting adventure. .. -)
I first this book when it was first published in the 80's. Piers Anthony was considered something of a daring writer back then. Writing styles, including Anthony's, have evolved much since then. Still, this book was fun to read.
This trilogy is sheer joy to read. It's a treasure trove of beautiful writing and creativity. I've never read better science fiction and I've never read better fantasy. Piers Anthony must have exceeded himself with this work; it is surely his finest. His next best series is Incarnations of Immortality. I've read many of his Xanth books too.
I'm delighted to be reading this Apprentice Adept series again. I've read them at least 3 times previously, and I'm enjoying this read just as much as I did the previous ones.
I LOVE 💘 Piers Anthony books. This particular book/series has always been one of my favorites. Having read it before his Xanth series, this book/series made him one of my favorite authors.
If you enjoy fantasy with a alternate science fiction side, you'll love this. The two sides of Proton and Phaze highlight this author's keen understanding of sentient beings, logic and motivations.
I always highly recommend books by Piers Anthony! Whether it's one of his fantasy or science fiction books, I've read most of them. Now I just have to save my pennies to get his books on my , because I already have them in paperback.
I remembered it being so much better. I read the entire series years ago. Recently bought this one again. Writing styles have changed so much over the years. Lots of expositional writing I used to adore that now feels draggy to me. As always, Piers Anthony is an incredibly inventive and talented writer with immense skills. When I first read it I'm pretty sure I'd have given it a 5 star review, so it is probably my reading preferences that have changed.
I read this book when I was (a lot) younger, and had enjoyed it so much that I still have the paperback. Forty years and a second read later, all I can do is shake my head. Fantasy stories and other worlds were new to me at that time, so I didn’t have much of a frame of reference. If I had read this for the first time today I probably would have rated it lower. The author is way too wordy, going into too much detail on descriptions. I didn’t realize until into the Xanth books how much this author had sex on the brain. That’s when I stopped reading Anthony. In the Xanth books I appreciated the oddball humor, but this one didn’t have that going for it. I’ll still have strong memories of these books helping me thru things, but I think I’m going to have to pass on rereading any more.
