Justice Inked Book 7 Cowboy Justice Association edition by Olivia Jaymes Romance eBooks Reviews
The latest installment in Jaymes’ Cowboy Justice series brings together characters who’ve appeared in previous books in the series Dare Turner, whom we first met as Deputy Dare way back when in Cowboy Famous (Book 4) and Rayne Dunn, who was featured in Justice Imperfect (Book 6). On the surface, they may not look like a match but Jaymes brings them together in a winning combination of not to be denied attraction, good humor, strong wills, brutal honesty, danger, and some seriously sexy times. Justice Inked is a delight and a welcome addition to a terrific series. I'm a fan of the series and enjoyed Inked very much.
This is the first one of the series that I have read. I have a habit of reading out of order.
I liked that they are both strong people. I appreciated that Dare was man enough to talk about seeing a shrink as he left the service. I really hate books where the hero or heroine disregards the availability of those services.
I liked that the plot had some twists and turns, although I did figure out part of it before they did.
I liked that she felt she could ask for what she wanted and he trusted her enough to oblige.
I also appreciated that the author didn’t forget what had happened the previous day. For example, it was acknowledged that the heroine was sore and bruised the day after something happened, and they did not just jump into hanky panky like nothing happened.
Rayne is a one of a kind woman. She moves to Montana to be closer to her sister. She opens a tattoo shop and stays pretty busy. Dare is the Sheriff and came back after his dad passed away to raise his sister. Rayne’s shop is robbed but nothing is taken. Dare and Rayne start dating secretly because they live in a small town and don’t want anyone to know yet. While on a date, her house is broken into and her place is destroyed, while she’s getting mugged at an ice cream parlor. She goes to her sisters after he breaks up with her. Dare gets drunk and goes to apologize. Dare moves her in with him and his eighteen year old sister, who is excited. She has a bodyguard twenty four / seven when he can’t be with her. She gets kidnapped and Dare only hopes he can get to her in time.
Funny, extremely sexy, action, suspense and a big growly sheriff and a tiny tattoo artist.
There is no real chemistry between the MCs and Dare’s hang ups are taking too long to unravel. The one smexy scene was pretty hot but besides that the “mystery” surrounding Rayne is pretty obvious and the fact she hasn’t thought (even a little bit) that the strange tattoo/image the dead guy was asking about – you know, before he ended up shot dead in the back of her shop – might actually BE what the killer is looking for OR that is might be a map, was ridiculous. Then again, Dare, a seasoned cop and his ex-FBI friend couldn't piece it together either so . . . *Smh*
I don’t really like Dare, he runs too hot and cold. Also I don’t need the constant reminder that a) he can’t be happy b) doesn’t know how to be happy (even if he wanted to be) and finally, c) can’t/won’t smile. I. Get. It. Lets please move ON!
I think the writing style is just not a good fit for me and I ran out of patience with both MCs. Side characters weren’t much better.
Dare is the county sheriff who evidently never smiles. He's known for his facial expression which is unhappy to lethal. Rayne is a tattoo artist and a free spirit (at least in comparison to Dare). Neither one "likes" the other, but life butts in when Rayne's tattoo shop is trashed and a body is found outside. Dare decides that Rayne is in danger - Rayne is "flummoxed" by Dare's insistence on protecting her. She can't think of anything worse than being stuck with anyone who's that unhappy. She sees life in every way opposite of Dare. Well, they are actually made for each other and when the murder case escalates, they both learn how important differences are to survival.
As their relationship grew, I have to admit I laughed out loud and their reactions. The scene in the pantry took forever to read because I was laughing so much that I couldn't see through my tears. Ms. Jaymes is a new author for me, but definitely one I will look for again.
Sheriff Dare Turner is known in town for his scowl and generally bad mood. Caring for a little sister who thinks she's old enough to know better doesn't help, neither does a body found outside the local tattoo shop, where Dare himself goes to have a tattoo done... but then, Dare is secretly fond of the tattoo artist, Rayne Dunn. // Rayne is a rebel and a workaholic. She works too much to enjoy a date, esp. not with grouchy sheriff Dare. Dare thinks Rayne is too loud and mouthy, and Rayne thinks Dare has a stick up his butt. However, when someone tossed Rayne's shop, with the body outside, things get tense. When her purse was snatched, AND her home was tossed too, it's clear that the bad guys are after something... Can Dare protect Rayne from whoever's after her? Or is she involved?
Pretty good romantic suspense setting up the enemies to lovers schtick. The tension escalated nicely. The resolution was a trope but competently executed.
