If I could’ve had my way, I would’ve read this book from start to finish in one sitting. I was hooked the moment I started reading. It’s a fast paced story told from the point of view of Jenna Lehane, the main character. Jenna is a member of the Hunters’ Guild. The Guild is secret organization whose mission is to keep the supernatural world in check and coexisting as peacefully as possible with the human world. Jenna, a Hunter, has been sent to the Belgian chapter in Bruges to help figure out who has been killing tourists. Bruges is an old city with a very colorful history and a high population of supernaturals. Jenna has the ability to see and hear ghosts which is both an asset and a liability. The action of the story starts immediately upon Jenna’s arrival in Bruges as we follow her on the trail to discover who or what the killers are, and doesn’t let up until the end.I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a fast paced adventure, especially if you like supernatural stories. It’s chock full of interesting and unique characters. I enjoyed getting to know all of them. This is the first book I’ve read by E.J. Stevens, but most definitely not my last! I’m already shopping in her catalog of books for my next read.

Hunting in Bruges Hunters' Guild Volume 1 EJ Stevens 9780989488709 Books Reviews
I was a little nervous starting this book as I was told it was a spin off of the Ivy Grainger books. I didn't think it would be on par. Boy, was I wrong- and never so happy to be wrong. Tightly written but so full of twists and turns in the story that you are always being hit with something new. The European setting was a delightful change of venue and added a great new flavor to a new series. Em garde !
I have enjoyed Jenna as a supporting character in the Ivy Granger series and was looking forward to seeing her as a main character. The main character, Jenna, is a "hunter" from America who has been sent to Burges to help the local hunter's guild. Poor Jenna, ends up with a team which includes a witch who probably needs rehab and a somewhat unstable explosive expert. She ends up having to deal with a seemingly excessive number of supernatural problems for the size of the area. The characters need a little more development but part of the enjoyment in reading a new series is watching the characters develop. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
While this may be read as a standalone book, references are made to people, places, and events from Author Stevens Ivy Granger series.
It was great fun to read more about the hunters and Jenna in particular. Heading to Bruges in Europe gives this character the chance to shine and develop more. I look forward to reading the next in the series.
I read this in pretty much one sitting. I really like E.J. Stevens writing. The characters are fully fleshed out individuals, with quirks and complex personalities. The city of Bruges in all its dark glory is richly drawn in loving detail. The inclusion of the more rarely seen rusalka, grindylow and swan maidens was refreshing and I was glad to encounter them. I highly recommend anything written by this author, as I also thoroughly enjoy the Ivy Granger books.
Jenna is sent to Europe to hunt a serial killer. With the Master out of the city, the Guild is nearly empty of the modern Templars . Left on her own to figure out the killings, she uncovers a greater threat than a supernatural killer. Old world dark and creepy throughout the story. Good protagonist, side characters needed fleshed out.
Hunting in Bruges is the first novel in the Hunters' Guild series, set in the world of E.J. Stevens' psychic detective, Ivy Granger. This novel follows Ivy's fellow Guild member Jenna Lehane as she travels to Bruges to battle vampires and other supernatural threats. She also faces threats from within the Guild itself. Along the way she meets Ash, a companion who turns out to be more than he seems and who is just as likable a character as Jenna herself. The character interaction is what sets this apart from other urban fantasy novels and what has me looking forward to the next book in this series. The narrators of the Audible version, Melanie A. Mason and Anthony Bowling, do an excellent job of bringing the characters to life and setting the tone for this exciting, action-packed story.
I had a hard time getting into this book. I found the heroine, Jenna, to be very one dimensional. She has devoted herself to being a Hunter and doesn't do anything else or really think about anything else. Jenna has the requisite terrible background, but a backstory does not substitute for character building. Towards the end she has a human moment, but mostly she is all business. This is in stark contrast to the Ivy Granger series. Ivy is very human so I'm not sure what happened with Jenna.
